Like many festivals in Hoi An, the Long Chu Festival is steeped as much in cultural belief as it in religion. Long Chu festival is celebrated on the 15th of the seventh and eighth lunar month, when the new season is coming and the old one is leaving, and the entire climat is uncertain. It is held in the summer months, when plagues and other types of epidemics are most likely to break out in the fishing villages. As a result, religious ceremonies are carried out to fight the diseases.

Tet Trung Thu, as it is known in Vietnam, or the Mid-Autumn Moon Festival, is a wonderful ancient festival that revolves around children. The festival, held annually on the 15th of Lunar August in Hoi An, helps cre-ate the most c-harming and picturesque night of the year. It involves the customs of moon contemplation, procession of stars & moon using shaped lanterns, lion dance, as well as parties with moon cakes and fruits. The carpentry village of Kim Bong belongs to the Cam Kim commune, just on the other side of Hoi An river. Take a boat trip on Thu Bon River to visit Thanh Ha & Kim Bong handicraft Villages. It is very convenient for tourists to visit and collect souvenirs. With the reputation of Kim Bong carpentry, there were many carpenters organized by the King of the Nguyen dynasty in order to build Hue capital. Among them were awarded the nine and eight grades of mandarin positions, chief wooden statue positions etc.

Quan Thang is currently seen as one of the nicest ancient houses in Hoi An. It is over 150 year old and carries the architecture style of Hoa Ha, China. Throughout the years, the style as well as interior decoration of the house has been lovingly preserved. That helps us at least partly imagine the lifestyle of its generations of owners, who belonged to the merchant class in Hoi An in the past.

Water bodies in general are an important part of Vietnam as a whole. More so for this shore town of Hoi An. The Thu Bon River in Hoi An plays an important role in the geography, culture as well as the history of Hoi An. The town which was better known as Fai Fo in the days of antiquity, is situated on the banks of this river. Located at a distance of 30 km away form Vietnam’s 4th largest city, Danang, this small town is positioned in the estuary of the Thu Bon River in Hoi An. Moreover, the Thu Bon River in Hoi An is not just the main culminating point for most festivals and events that are held at Hoi An but also the chief source of livelihood for many residents of the town.
