In March 2011 INTERKULTUR organized the first ever International Choir Competition in Vietnam's history in the city of Hoi An. After the big success of this first edition Hoi An authorities decided to regularly continue the cooperation by biannually hosting the event. After the 2nd Vietnam International Choir Competition is hosted in Hue city in December 2012, the event will now come back to Hoi An in 2013.
After 4 days excited competing at 6 choir categories, the 1st Viet Nam International Choir Festival and Competition came to end with 6 overall prizes, in which the 1st prize of mixed choirs category was given to National University of Art Education Choir (Viet Nam). The champion of this competition “ Hoi An Choir Prize” was awarded to Diponegoro University Choir (Indonesia).
Plaisir Ensemble was highly rewarded for its hard work in the 1st Vietnam International Choir Festival and Competition held in March 2011. This spectacular choir festival took place in an ancient city – Hoi An for the first time, drawing the participation of over 30 choirs with nearly 1,000 artists f-rom 11 countries and territories. All together, Plaisir Ensemble won Golden Diploma in vocal ensemble of equal voices and The Winner of the category as well as The Overall Winner in Chamber Choirs.
It has become quieter in Hoi An now. The 1st Vietnam International Choir Festival and Competition is over, most of the choirs left the city yesterday. Today the INTERKULTUR staff will fly back home as well.
Ten choirs were competing in the Folklore category yesterday evening in Hoi An. Although it’s getting warmer and it hardly rains, the competition couldn’t be held on the Open Air Stage as planned, but had to be in the Competition Hall at Hoi An Beach Resort, whe-re all other competitions are taking place, too.
The Executive Committee of the Event said until 12 January 2011, 34 choirs including 30 international choirs f-rom Sri Lanca, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore, Hongkong and 4 Vietnamese choirs have applied for participating in the 1st Vietnam International Choir Festival and Competition, Hoi An 2011. The total of participants now is more than 1,000, of which foreigners account for over 85% (about 855 persons). It is supposed that the number of choirs participating will be increasing.
