MONday - 06/02/2012 16:43
The 40th anniversary of the Hoi An Fellow Citizens Association in Ho Chi Minh City will be marked with a Hoi An Day celebration organized in the city next week.

The event will take place from 3:30pm on Feb 10 and end at 10pm the next day at the Dong Ho – Ky Hoa 1 area, 16A Le Hong Phong Street, District 10.

It will feature an open area depicting the architectural highlights of Hoi An Town, including gates and temples, as well as several photograph, painting and documentary exhibitions.

Traditional folk games and art performances, as well as a corner serving Hoi An cuisine will be other highlights of the event.

On the night of February 10, Ho Chi Minh City’s leading singers, poets and musicians, as well as artists from Hoi An traditional art theaters will present works dedicated to the town.

Hoi An Town, located in the central province of Quang Nam, had the largest harbour in Southeast Asia in the 1st century and was known earlier as Champa City.

In 1999, the old town was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO as a well-preserved example of a Southeast Asian trading port of the 15th to 19thcenturies, with buildings that display a unique blend of local and foreign influences.

The town, recently, together with Hanoi, were named among the top 10 destinations in Asia for 2011 in an online poll conducted by Hong Kong-based travel and trade journal, Smart Travel Asia.

The Hoi An Day celebration in HCMC is being held by the Hoi An People’s Committee.
