On Jan 28, the People’s Committee of Hội An city hold the event “Welcome the 8millionth visitor getting Hoi An entrance ticket.Mrs. Bui Thi Duong, who is the 8 millionth visitor, is Vietnamese American (born in My Tho). She comes to Hoi An with 13 other members of the group handled by Sai Gon Tourist.

Ms. Uyen, Deputy head of Hội An Office of Tourist Services said that the city has held five times this kind of event since 2011 which can be listed accordingly: Welcome the 200,000th visitor in 2001; the 2 millionth visitor in 2006; the 4 millionth visitor in 2010, the 6 millionth visitor in 2011 and the 8 millionth in 2016."We’ll make a random draw with the ticket serial numbers that each member of the group is holding to find out the 8 millionth visitor. Interestingly, this time, the group of visitors are overseas Vietnamese. In the last four times, all the visitors are foreigners" shared Uyen.

Uyen also added, the events in 2001 and 2006 took place right at the ticket stall. However, since 2010 the event were held at the Japanese Bridge area with Hội An-characterized performance such as Lantern dance, traditional bingo game,..

As reported, in 2015, total arrivals in Hoi An reached 2151 million, increase 22.43% over the same period. In 2015, the city of Hoi An had 1,170,983 visits getting tickets to the ancient town, an increase of 39.25% compared to 2014.Khiếu Thị Hoài
