The imprint of Hội An Ancient Town and Mỹ Sơn Sanctuary after 20 years

On December 4, 1999 which was a major turning point for Quảng Nam province in the field of culture because Hội An Ancient Town and Mỹ Sơn Sanctuary were recognized by UNESCO as World Cultural Heritage Sites at the same time. 20 years of owning World Cultural Heritage Sites, government and people of Quảng Nam province have been striving to preserve and promote the value of these heritage sites.
Preservation efforts and positive results
 
From 1999 until now, with various sources of capital, Hội An Ancient Town and Mỹ Sơn Sanctuary have been continuously renovating with a total investment of more than 359 billion VND. In particular, repairing 459 monuments in Hội An with a total budget of over 182.6 billion VND; repairing 11 Cham towers and 6 supporting items in Mỹ Sơn Sanctuary with a total budget of over 166.5 billion VND.
 
 
Continuously innovating and creating many tourism products, along with preserving and promoting the value of heritage sites in the direction of linking preservation of the old town with preservation of natural landscapes in coastal area, preservation of eco villages, traditional craft villages, and intangible values of Quảng Nam, make the image of Hội An be introduced and promoted increasingly around the world, create an originality and attraction that draw a large number of visitors attention.
 
Recently, on September 7, the travel magazine Travel + Leisure awarded the prize “The most charming city of the world 2019” to Hội An city.
 
Besides, the transport infrastructure at Mỹ Sơn Sanctuary is getting better. Many products associated with Champa culture, especially Cham dance art performance organization at the bottom of Cham ancient tower, have created vitality for the monuments, served tourists better.
 
 
Recognition of international organizations and friends
 
Mr. Michael Croft, a representative of UNESCO in Vietnam, said that Quảng Nam is a special partner of UNESCO in Vietnam, the experience of preserving and promoting the heritage values in Quảng Nam is of great value to international friends.
 
He also appreciated role of community, especially the locals in the two heritage sites Hội An and Mỹ Sơn in joining hands to preserve and promote the heritage values. The result is that Hội An and Mỹ Sơn attract a large numbers of tourists to travel.
 
Mr. Trần Văn Tân, Vice Chairman of Quảng Nam People’s Committee, said that before and during 20 years of UNESCO’s recognition of Hội An Ancient Town and Mỹ Sơn Sanctuary as world cultural heritage sites, the authorities and people of Quảng Nam always make constant efforts to preserve and promote the values ​​of cultural heritage sites. The entire system of temples, towers, ancient houses and ecosystems is preserved intactly and attracts visitors attention.
 
The values of two cultural heritage sites not only attract tourists but also be a lever for tourism service industry to develop strongly, for many new kinds and tourism products to be created that contribute to socio-economic promotion of Quảng Nam, affirm the brand and destination of two cultural heritage sites Hội An, Mỹ Sơn on the tourist map of the Central Vietnam and spread to regions and the world.
